Dunmore Castle
The first castle was built here by de Bermingham about 1225, but it was burned by the sons of the kings of Connacht in 1249, by Fichra O'Flynn in 1284 and by Rory O'Connor in 1315. The present castle was probably built after the last burning. It is a massive rectangular tower of four storeys situated on a motte with the remains of a fortifying wall around it.

Dunmore Friary
St. Patrick is said to have built a monastery in Dunmore, upon the site of which a friary for Hermits of St. Augustine was afterwards founded by Walter de Birmingham, Lord Athenry, in 1425.

Portal Dolmen
South east of the village of Garrafrauns stands the remains of a Portal Dolmen.  The monument dating from Bronze Age times consists of 2 large standing stones and one capstone. The capstone is over 4 metres in length and weighs between 2 and 3 tonnes. The monument has now collapsed.
